Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), founded in 1949, is a key university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. As a foreign language university committed to providing a variety of applied programs, SISU prepares professionals qualified for roles in international affairs having expertise in more than one specialty. SISU, one of the earliest universities in China receiving overseas students under China Government Scholarship Programs, began to enroll international students in 1981. SISU provides Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship and SISU Excellent Student Scholarship for students of good character and fine scholarship. SISU has a full-time enrolment of over 7000 students, 25000 registered students of other kinds and enrolls over 1500 person-time international students coming from about 50 countries and areas all over the world every year.

III. Living at SISU

There’re three dormitory buildings, SISU Guesthouse, SISU Hotel and Foreign Experts’ Building, available for international students, which are all equipped with telephone, TV set, private bath, shower, bathtub and 24-hour hot water service, etc. Accommodation fee of double room is 50-65 RMB/person/day, and that of single room is 85-130 RMB/day. There’s a clinic, a grocer, several cafeterias and dining halls. On average meals of a day cost 30-50 RMB. Nearby there are some banks and post offices. Various sports facilities are available on campus, such as basketball, soccer, baseball and so on. In the gymnasium there’s a swimming pool, a fitness room, a billiards room, a basketball court and a badminton court.
