St Brelade's College was established in 1978 and is the only British Council accredited language school in the Channel Islands. Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands - a collection of small British islands just off the coast of France. It has a population of about 90,000 and English is the only language spoken. St Brelades College is situated 200 metres above the picturesque harbour village of St Aubin - a ten minute drive from the capital town of St Helier, which is full of shops and restaurants offering food from all over the world. Students can reach Jersey by boat from St Malo or by plane from any UK airport as well as directly from Paris, Zurich, Geneva, and many German cities.
All adult courses include two or three weekly excursions and two evening social activities such as pub nights and international dinners. Accommodation can be organised in either hotels or host families. Many hotels are located about 200 metres from the school but many adult students opt for host family accommodation where they receive breakfast, dinner and a packed lunch.
Junior courses include a full schedule of afternoon and evening activities, such as surfing, watersports, bowling, cultural visits and evening barbecue, cinema and disco nights. For juniors we can provide host-family or residential accommodation with three meals per day provided. A special feature of the school is that nearly everything is included; transfers, entry fees and daily transport to and from school with our own school bus.
The school has a large playground with volleyball court and BBQ area, a student lounge offering refreshments and an access centre with free access to the Internet and Wifi.
Students are taught by qualified TEFL instructors, in small groups with a maximum of eight pupils in adult classes and twelve pupils in teenage classes. Classes are small enough for teachers to adapt their methods and materials to the needs of each group. The main emphasis of teaching is on communication and helping students to increase their conversational fluency. |
