DILP (Diploma de Língua Portuguesa)

This is an examination at an advanced level, which is recognised as an entrance requirement for Portuguese universities. It is therefore suitable for people who are required to study or work in a Portuguese-speaking environment.


Structure

The examination consists of five sections:

  • Reading; consists of three texts with approximately 30 items.
  • Writing; consists of three tasks from which the candidate must choose one
  • Listening; consists of information transfer, matching and note-completion which are based on three texts
  • Speaking; interview including introduction, response to visual/written prompts and discussion on a topic agreed beforehand
  • Structural competence; consists of 50 items including gap-filling, text completion or expansion and grammar transformations


Results

Each component is equally weighted and carries 22% of the total grade, except for structural competence, which carries 12%.

There are three passing grades:

  • Suficiente (pass); 55-69% of the exam
  • Bom (good); 70-84% of the exam
  • Muito Bom (very good); 85-100% of the exam
