CELP (Certificado de Língua Portuguesa)

This examination is recognised by both Portuguese and foreign authorities and is based on the Council of Europe's Threshold specification. It tests the language skills needed to participate in everyday situations.


Structure

The examination consists of five sections:

  • Reading; consists of five questions with five to 10 multiple-choice, true/false or matching items
  • Writing; consists filling in a form and writing a letter, postcard or report
  • Listening; consists of questions based on three texts (approx. 30 minutes)
  • Speaking; includes tasks based on a short text read before an interview
  • Structural competence; completing texts and transforming sentences

Results

There are three passing grades:

  • Suficiente (pass); 55-69% of the exam
  • Bom (good); 70-84% of the exam
  • Muito Bom (very good); 85-100% of the exam
