DIPLE (Diploma Intermdio de Portugus Lngua Estrangeira)
The DIPLE was established by the Departamento de Língua e Cultura Portuguesa at the University of Lisbon under the authorization of the Portuguese Ministérios dos Negócios Estrangeiros e da Educação (Ministry of Education). The DIPLE corresponds to the ALTE Level B2 or Vantage Level according to the Council of Europe. The required level of proficiency is usually reached after 500-600 hours of Portuguese language training and candidates should be able to communicate in a broad range of formal and informal everyday and work situations.
Structure
The examination consists of five sections:
- Written comprehension (reading); consists of two parts (60 minutes)
- Written expression (writing); consists of three parts (one hour 30 minutes)
- Structural competence; consists of three parts (one hour)
- Oral expression (speaking); consists of three tasks (15 minutes)
- Oral comprehension (listening); consists of three parts (45 minutes)
Results
There are three passing grades:
- Suficiente (pass); 55-69% of the exam
- Bom (good); 70-84% of the exam
- Muito Bom (very good); 85-100% of the exam
