Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL-TRKI 3)
The test of Russian as a foreign language is carried out within the Russian National State Testing System of the Russian Language for Foreigners created by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. The exam measures the language proficiency of non-native speakers and their ability to use Russian in formal and informal everyday situations. Candidates who have passed the TORFL receive an officially recognized certificate that serves for educational and business purposes.
The TORFL-TRKI 3 provides a high-level qualification and certifies an advanced stage of proficiency, allowing professional activity in philology, translation and interpreting, editing, journalism, diplomatic service and management in a Russian speaking environment. It is recognized as obligatory for receiving Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. degrees in these fields.
Structure of exam
- Reading; consists of four sections and a total number of 25 multiple-choice items based on various texts of cultural and business language nature
- Writing; consists of three tasks including dictation and a composition expressing an attitude or opinion
- Listening; there are four parts including short dialogue, discussion, public speech and artistic speech and 25 multiple-choice items
- Speaking; consists of three parts including response to auditory texts, role-play, guided conversation and interaction with the examiner
- Structural competence; contains 100 multiple-choice, matching and text reconstruction/completion/extension tasks
Results
Each component is equally weighted at 20% of the total mark. There are three pass grades (A, B and C) and certificates are awarded to all successful candidates. Grade D is unsatisfactory and no certificate is awarded.
- Level A - 85 % - 100 %
- Level B - 75 % - 84 %
- Level C - 66 % - 74 %
- Level D - less than 66 %
