Test i norsk for fremmedspråklige – høyere nivå (Advanced Level)
The Test i norsk - høyere nivå was established in cooperation with the University of Bergen and the Folkeuniversitetet. This advanced Norwegian language test is designed to evaluate the level of proficiency of foreign citizens wishing to apply to Norwegian universities or to work in the business sector.
Structure
Written part:
- Reading; skimming, scanning and in-depth reading exercises from magazines, reference books and newspapers
- Listening; answering multiple-choice questions based on 40 conversations and announcements
- Summary of a spoken text; combining listening comprehension and writing skills
- Writing; writing an essay of approximately 350 words
- Structural Competence; gap-filling in pairs of sentences
Oral part:
- First part; responding to spoken stimuli
- Second part; explaining and describing situations based on visual stimuli
- Third part; taking part in conversation-based on a specific article
Results
The reading and listening comprehension carry approximately one-third of the total marks for the written test, while structural competence, summary and writing account for two-thirds. Oral competence is assessed separately.
Certificates are awarded to all candidates gaining 150 to 720 points. The marks required for admission to a university is usually 450 points but varies from university to university.
