Ieweschten Diplom Lëtzebuergesch (IDL)

The IDL was established by the Centre de Langues Luxembourg (CLL) and serves as a proof of language proficiency at near-native-speaker level. Candidates should be able to interact in all social, professional and cultural contexts.

Structure

There are three components:

  • Reading; comprehension of a 1,000-word text and orally answering questions based on the text content
  • Writing; writing a report on a recorded discussion, an answer to a personal/formal letter and gap-filling task with 24-30 items
  • Listening; hearing a 500-word recorded text, giving an oral report and answering questions
  • Speaking; expressing an opinion on a prepared subject chosen from a range of three themes and participating in a conversation with the examiner

Results

Each of the four components is equally weighted and carries 25% of the total marks. Candidates receive a 'pass' or a 'fail' mark for each of the four components. Only candidates who pass each component are awarded the IDL diploma.
