Zertifikat Lëtzebuergesch als Friemsprooch (ZLaF)

The ZLaF was established by the Centre de Langues Luxembourg (CLL) and is endorsed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Education. The examination is based on the Council of Europe's Waystage Level specification. Candidates should be able to communicate in Luxembourgish in a limited number of standard everyday situations.

Structure

The examination consists of three sections:

  • Reading; understanding short texts, identifying the main points of the text or scanning for information in order to perform simple tasks related to it
  • Writing; composing a short note or message
  • Listening / Speaking; candidates are tested individually by two examiners. The test consists of three parts including oral interaction, listening comprehension and oral expression

Results

Candidates are awarded either 'pass' or 'fail' grades for each section of the exam and each individual component is graded. In the case of the listening/speaking component, interaction, comprehension and oral expression are each assessed, and are given equal weighting (33.3% of the total). Certificates are awarded to all successful candidates.
