Certificat de coneixements de llenguatge jurdic
The Certificat de coneixements de llenguatge jurídic serves as proof of Catalan language knowledge for business settings (administration or economics), study or private life, and is available for anyone older than 16 years. The certificate was developed by the authority Direcció general de Política Lingueística (DGPL) and examines the comprehension (written and verbal) of legal texts. It tests a candidates ability to write normal legal texts clearly and precisely and correct texts in accordance with technical legal language. The participants should be able to complete the following: arrange different text fragments according to their contents and connect them according to their normal structure; adapt a text to a certain speech situation with consideration of the transmitter and receiver, the topic, the internationality and the transmission path (written); correct usage of the characteristics of technical legal language.
This language examination corresponds to the Certificat de coneixements suficients de llenguatge jurídic (J) according to the Junta Permanent de Català.
In order to complete this language examination, the participant should have already completed the Certificat de suficiència de català (C) or an equivalent.
Structure
- Written expression; composition of a legal text where legal knowledge is not evaluated. Revision and correction of a legal text with clear and precise expression
- Practical knowledge of technical legal language; examination of grammar knowledge, vocabulary, specific knowledge of technical legal language including terminology, phrasing, syntax, abbreviations, upper and lower case, etc. Solving six tasks, which can consist of suggesting corrections on errors in grammar or style, finding a term, defining a term, using synonyms, replacing a Catalan sentence and inserting punctuation marks
Results
The written expression section is worth 60% of the total and the practical knowledge of technical legal language 40%. Candidates can receive either a apto (pass) or no apto (fail) grade. In order to pass the examination, the participants must have at least 70% of the total score and 50% in written expression and practical knowledge of technical legal language. If one of these sections shows 10 linguistic errors or more, the candidate will not immediately receive a passing grade.
The examination lasts two hours.
