Japanese Language Proficiency Test - Level 1
The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is a standardized test to validate a person's Japanese language proficiency, designed for candidates that have the ability to use Japanese in business or university settings. The JLPT is offered by the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) in Japan and the Japan Foundation outside of Japan. Level 1 of the exam (ikkyuu) is reached after approximately 900 hours of study and the vocabulary is roughly about 10,000 words.
Structure
- Characters (hiragana, katakana, kanji) and vocabulary; 100 points (45 minutes)
- Listening comprehension; 100 points (45 minutes)
- Reading comprehension and grammar; 200 points (90 minutes)
Results
The exam lasts 180 minutes and a candidate can obtain a total of 400 points. At least 70% of the 400 points is needed to pass.
