Japanese Language Proficiency Test - Level 4
The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is a standardized test to validate a person's Japanese language proficiency, designed for non-native speakers. The JLPT is offered by the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) in Japan, and the Japan Foundation outside of Japan. Level 4 of the exam (yon kyuu) is reached after approximately 150 hours of study and the vocabulary is roughly equivalent to an early elementary school education (about 800 words).
Structure
- Characters (hiragana, katakana, kanji) and vocabulary; 100 points (25 minutes)
- Listening comprehension; 100 points (25 minutes)
- Reading comprehension and grammar; 200 points (50 minutes)
Results
The exam lasts 100 minutes and candidates can obtain a total of 400 points. At least 60% of the 400 points is needed to pass.
