In general
For entering the country a valid international passport is needed with a validity of not less than 3 months beyond the intended length of stay.

A visa is required by all except the following nations for a period not exceeding 3 months:

  • EU countries and Switzerland (except for Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovakia, Cyprus); Portuguese nationals must have right of residence in Portugal;
  • Nationals of the UK and other British passport holders who have evidence of the right to live permanently in the UK for visits of up to 6 months providing they hold a passport valid for 6 months beyond the departure date and onward or return tickets;
  • Nationals of Andorra, Argentina, Bahrain, Brazil, Brunei, Chile, Czech Republic, Hong Kong (British Nationals Overseas passports), Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Kiribati, Korea, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Nauru, Norway, Oman, Qatar, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, Tuvalu, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Zimbabwe and Vatican City for visits of up to 3 months;



Validity:

Tourist visa: generally 3 months, maximum 9 months.
Transit visa: 24 hours


Visa application

In order to apply for a visa for New Zealand one has to submit the following documents:

  • A valid international passport (valid at least 6 months beyond intended stay)
  • A recent passport photo
  • 1 application form (available online)
  • Visa fee in cash or by post order
  • A return ticket or tickets for your onward journey
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the duration of stay


Please note

Children: The official ID card for children (with no passport photo up 10 years old and with an attached photo attached for children up to 16) or children entered in their parent’s passport are required documents for entering the country. A passport for children is always recommended.

Transit: Travelers continuing their journey by the same or first connecting aircraft within 24 hours, providing they hold onward or return documentation do not need a transit visa. Some nationals passing through New Zealand always require a transit visa, even when not leaving the airport.
