Mexico
In general
For entering the country a valid international passport is needed with a validity of not less than six months beyond the intended length of stay.
A visa is required for people who are not in possession of a tourist card.
A tourist card is available only to people entering Mexico on holiday, for reasons of health and tourism. The card is a single-entry document and is issued free of charge. Tourist cards must be kept by the visitor during the entire length of stay, as they will have to be presented and stamped on leaving. The following countries are allowed to enter Mexico with a valid tourist card:
- EU countries and Switzerland (except for Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Malta, Cyprus) for stays of up to 180 days
- Andorra, Argentina, Bermuda, Chile, Costa Rica, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Switzerland and Uruguay for stays of up to 180 days;
- Venezuela for up to 30 days
Validity
The tourist card is valid for 30, 90 or 180 days. An extension for six months is available on request in Mexico.
Tourist card application
In order to apply for a tourist card for Mexico one has to submit the following documents:
- A valid international passport and a photocopy of the passport
- A return ticket or tickets for your onward journey
- Proof of sufficient funds to cover the duration of stay
- Reservation for a hotel or at a tourist agency (together with a receipt)
Visa application
In order to apply for a visa for Mexico one has to submit the following documents:
- A valid international passport and a photocopy of the passport
- A recent passport photo
- A return ticket or tickets for your onward journey
- Proof of sufficient funds to cover the duration of stay
- Reservation for a hotel or at a tourist agency (together with a receipt)
- Reasons for visit and travel dates
Please note
Tourist cards: Valid for the holder only. Other persons (including minors) travelling on the same passport must have their own card. The card is a single-entry document and is issued free of charge. The Consular office retains the right to request further evidence of the applicant's intention to visit Mexico as a tourist whenever such intention has not been established to the Consul's satisfaction.
Engineer visa: It is issued in the following cases: technical support, assembling, installation, education and courses in the engineering field. An Engineering visa can be issued for the nationals of the following countries:
- EU nationals and Switzerland
