Greece
In general
For entering the country a valid international passport is needed.
Exceptions to the general rule are nationals from the following countries who can travel with their valid ID card only:
- European Union countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway and Switzerland.
A visa is required by all except the following nations for a period not exceeding 90 days:
- Nationals of Argentina, Bermuda, Brazil, Brunei, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Uruguay, Vatican City and Venezuela;
- Nationals of any of the Schengen member states who hold permanent residency are entitled to re-enter the Schengen area without a visa, provided proof of residence and a valid passport are submitted
Validity:
- Up to 90 days, depending on nationality.
- Transit visa: max. 5 days (including the day of arrival)
Visa application
In order to apply for a visa for Greece, one has to submit the following documents:
- A valid international passport (validity at least 6 months beyond intended stay)
- Recent passport photos
- Application form
- A return ticket
- Visa fee in cash
- A travel insurance
Please note
Schengen visa: The nationals of countries which are required to have a Schengen visa are obliged to obtain the visa before arrival in Greece. A Schengen visa can be issued only in the country where the person has his permanent address registration. Travellers visiting just one Schengen country should apply to the Consulate of that country; travelers visiting more than one Schengen country should apply to the Consulate of the country chosen as the main destination or the country they will enter first (if they have no main destination).
Transit: Transit passengers continuing their journey by the same or first connecting aircraft provided they are holding valid onward or return documentation and not leaving the airport do not require a transit visa. Nationals of the following countries always require a transit visa, even when not leaving the airport: Afghanistan, Angola, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Ghana, India, Iraq, Iran, Congo, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria and Turkey.
