In general
For entering the country a valid international passport is needed with a validity of not less than 6 months beyond the intended length of stay.

Exceptions to the general rule are nationals from the following countries who can travel only with their valid ID card:

  • EU countries and Switzerland;
  • Andorra, El Salvador, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco and Norway.


A visa is required by all except for the following nations for a period not exceeding 3 months:

  • Nationals of Argentina, Bermuda, Brazil, Brunei, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Korea (Rep. of), Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Panama, Romania, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Uruguay, the USA, Vatican City and Venezuela;
  • Nationals of Andorra or Monaco and any of the Schengen member states who hold permanent residency are entitled to re-enter the Schengen area without a visa, provided proof of residence and a valid passport are submitted.



Validity:

  • Transit visa: 5 days (including the day of arrival)
  • Short-stay visa: up to 90 days.



Visa application

In order to apply for a visa for France, one has to submit the following documents:

  • A valid international passport (validity at least 6 months beyond intended stay)
  • Recent passport photos
  • Application form
  • A return ticket
  • Visa fee in cash
  • A travel insurance
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the duration of stay, hotel reservations and business plans, etc.

Residence permit: The residence permit is to be obtained in France. For more information please contact the French Embassies throughout the world. The consulate will only take written requests into consideration.


Transit:
Transit passengers continuing their journey by the same or first connecting aircraft provided they are holding valid onward or return documentation and not leaving the airport do not require a transit visa. Nationals of some countries always require a transit visa, even when not leaving the airport (Afghanistan, Albania, Angola, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Ghana, Haiti, Iraq, Iran, and Congo. The following countries do not need a transit visa if they have already obtained a visa for a Schengen country: Burkina Fasso, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Guinea, India, Cameroon, Mali, Senegal and Syria.
