In general
For entering the country a valid international passport is needed with a validity not less than six months beyond the length of intended stay. An exception to the general rule are nationals traveling for the purpose of tourism from the following countries:

  • Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Paraguay and Uruguay, who can travel with their identity cards (Cédula de Identitad)


A visa for nationals from the following countries is not needed in case that they are visiting Chile as tourists for up to 90 days.

  • EU countries and nationals of Switzerland as well as nationals of Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Columbia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, Macedonia, Grenada, Guatemala, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Jamaica, Liechtenstein, Macao, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Morocco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, San Marino, Slovenia, South Africa, Suriname, Switzerland, Tonga, Tunisia, Turkey, Tuvalu, Uruguay, Vatican City, Venezuela and Yugoslavia
  • Peru (max. duration of stay 60 days)
  • Costa Rica, Honduras, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Singapore (max. duration of stay 30 days)



Validity

Varies depending on the visa type and the applicant's nationality. An extended visa for up to 90 days may be obtained upon request. A student's visa has a validity period of one year.


Visa application
In order to apply for a visa for Chile, one has to submit the following documents:

  • A valid international passport (validity at least six months beyond intended stay)
  • Three recent passport photos
  • Police registration
  • Certificate of employment (work contract)
  • Address and contact person in Chile
  • A letter of invitation (in most of the cases)
  • Solemn declaration under oath (stating that the signatory is obliged to stay in the country no longer than the authorized time and only for the purpose of tourism)
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the duration of stay in the form of bank account statements, credit cards

Visa for students:
Valid for only one year.

Visa for a limited stay: Can be issued for foreigners who have family ties in Chile as well as foreign investors, researchers, scientists, representatives of religious organizations and foreign countries, people who have been sent to Chile by foreign companies.
