In general
For entering the country a valid international passport is needed except for the nationals of the following countries:

  • Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, who can travel with their identity cards with a validity of not less than 6 months beyond the intended stay)


A visa for nationals from the following countries is not needed in case that they are visiting Brazil as tourists or for the purpose of visit up to 90 days.

  • EU- Nationals as well as Switzerland nationals, nationals from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Island, Columbia, Morocco, Monaco, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, San Marino, Slovenia, South Africa, Suriname, Uruguay and Vatican City
  • Andorra, Bahamas, Barbados, Bolivia, Liechtenstein, Namibia, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela (a visa is needed for a business trip)



Validity

This visa is good for multiple entries and the authorized stays are for a maximum of 90 days per visit. There is a possibility of an extension, which may be obtained at the Federal Police (Polícia Federal) in Brazil if requested prior to the expiration of the authorized stay. One is not allowed to stay longer than 180 days in a 12-month period.


Visa application

In order to apply for a visa for Brazil, one has to submit the following documents:

  • A valid international passport (validity at least six months beyond intended stay)
  • A photocopy of the return or onward tickets (or an official letter from the carrier giving flight number details and payment confirmation)
  • Application form (PEDIDO DE VISTO) filled in capital letters or with a typewriter in English or Portuguese language
  • A recent passport photo
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the duration of stay- in the form of bank account statements, credit cards or certificate of employment


Please note

Adolescents: Children or persons under 18 years of age when not accompanied by both parents must have a birth certificate (if they are not included in their parents' passports). If this document is not in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French, an official translation must be presented as well. When children are traveling with one parent only, a declaration from the absent parent is needed and other regulations apply.

Vaccinations:
Travelers, who have visited particular countries in the last three months, have to submit an international vaccination certificate and a recent yellow fever (marillic typhus-med.) vaccination.
