In general
For entering the country a valid international passport is required.

A pre-arrival visa is required for nationals of the following countries:

  • Bahrain, Guinea, Qatar, Libya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria and United Arab Emirates (for stays up to 90 days);
  • Jordan (if holding a five-year passport and for stays of up to 30 days
  • Kuwait (for stays of up to six months)


The visa is issued for three months and may be extended on request. When a multiple entry visa is needed, this should be stated in the application form. Multiple entries are issued for business travellers on written request.


Visa application
In order to apply for a visa for Egypt, one has to submit the following documents:

  • A valid international passport (validity at least six months beyond intended stay)
  • One recent passport-type photograph
  • Application form (it can also be downloaded online from the homepages of the Embassy and Consulate departments throughout the world)
  • Visa fee - paid in cash or by postal order
  • Explanation of the purpose, reasons and duration of the trip


Please note

Business visa: A business letter of responsibility, explaining the purpose of your visit from the company you are going to work for as well a statement that the financial responsibility and return transportation are guaranteed is needed together with the other application documents.

Tourist visa: If you wish to enter the country as a tourist, a visa has to be issued and you have to submit tickets and documents for return or onward travel to another country. The visa is valid for 30 days and it can be issued on arrival at air- and seaports only (exception: land borders). Except occasional delays.

Children: Children's passports with a passport photo (also for children under 10) are required. Another possibility is that the children are included in one of their parent's passports. When the children are older than one, a passport photo has to be attached. For minors travelling to Egypt, if unaccompanied by their parents, a parents' or other legal guardian's authorisation to travel is required.

Working visa: The working permission is usually issued for one year. The possession of a valid entry visa is needed to complete the residence procedure in Egypt.
