University of Ljubljana - Center for Slovene as a Second/Foreign Language

The Centre for Slovene as a Second/Foreign Language extends understanding of the Slovene language, literature and culture on an international scale. It also encourages international research in Slovene language and literature, organises professional and scientific conferences and develops the complete infrastructure for attaining, examining and certifying proficiency in Slovene as a second/foreign language.
The Centre operates under the auspices of the Department of Slovene Studies at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana. Its activities are arranged in six specific programmes.

The programme has been designed for participants to study Slovene as a second/foreign language in Slovenia and occasionally also abroad. The courses are for foreigners whose first language is not Slovene and who have different demands, interests and goals. The programme offers a varied selection of language courses, differing in length (from 20 to 560 hours), intensity and goals. The most popular courses are those that combine language learning with studying modern culture and society in Slovenia. These are the Summer, One-Year and Winter Schools of Slovene Language which are of particular interest to participants from abroad. For those living in Slovenia there are courses on offer throughout the year, from the classical, which develop all the language skills equally, to the more specialised, such as survival courses, conversation, business Slovene, preparation for proficiency examinations and many more.

The Slovene courses programme gives special attention, in accordance with the other programmes organised by the Centre, to regularly developing the professional qualifications of teachers of Slovene as a second/foreign language and carrying out research assignments in this field.
Join us, and let our motto Slovene - no problem become your reality!
