University of Latvia is a guarantee for the development of Latvia. University of Latvia integrates diverse fields of research and studies with creative iniative to provide the higher education of European standard, to cultivate the Latvian language and traditions of cultural coorperation.
The Language Centre offers the INTENSIVE SUMMER COURSES at different levels. The courses (36 academic hours) will take place from Monday to Thursday in the evenings, 3 academic hours per day. The group size ranges from 8-10 but does not exceed 12.
We also offer the following REGULAR LANGUAGE COURSES at different levels:
Latvian language (Beginners)
Objectives:
After completion of the course, the students should be able to:
- understand basic words and phrases concerning himself/herself and his/her family
- read and understand simple texts
- ask and answer questions
- apply frequently used grammatical forms for communication in Latvian
- understand highest frequency vocabulary
- acquire communicative competence in common social situations
Latvian language (Lower Intermediate)
Objectives:
- to master the grammar rules incorporated in communicative functions
- to understand the key points of radio and TV programmes on current topics
- to read and understand study related issues
- to be able to talk on topics of general interest.
Latvian language (Upper Intermediate)
Objectives:
- to understand the main idea of complex texts in the student`s field of specialization
- to be able to participate in discussions on study related issues
- to explain his/her viewpoint on topical issues
- to be able to write on subjects related to his/her interest.
Latvian language (Advanced)
Objectives:
- to easily understand complex factual and literary texts
- to use language in a flexible manner for social and academic purposes
- to be able to produce well written texts on the theme of his/her study subject and other complicated subjects.
