The Diplôme de Langue et Littérature Françaises is the second of three certificates (1st level: The Certificat Pratique de Langue Française, 3rd level: Diplôme Supérieur d´Études Fançaises). Only students who have passed the The Certificat Pratique de Langue Française – 1e degré – or have similar qualifications – will be admitted to the exam.
Students go through a general course programme which will be complemented by an optional subject: Literature, translation, European institutions, political institutions, history, art history or economy and population.
Areas of Examination
Written exams
- Summarising a text and text commentary: The student has to summarise a text of daily life on a third of the length of the original text. After that, a kommentary has to be written that deals with the whole text or a sentence thereof.
- Translation into the mother tongue: The student has to translate a literary or regional studies text back into their mother language.
- Regional or cultural studies: A commentary has to be written about a text of the litarture course programme (the student has to know the whole work).
- Literature: A 20 line text must be presented and commented upon. This text comes from one or two literary works that are part of the course programme.
- Regional or cultural studies: The student has to present a topic of the regional studies programme. After that, the topic of the text has to be compared to the conditions in the student’s home country.
- Option literature: A text and a line of reasoning have to be written (the student gets to choose between two topics of a literary work).
- Translation into French: Translating a text out of the mother tongue of the student into French.
- Option literature, translation, European institutions, political institutions, history, art history or economy and population: The student has to write a text and a commentary to one of the topics. There is a choice of two topics at the exam.
The exam is failed, if the student reaches no points in one of the tests. At least 40/80 points have to be reached.
