English for Office Skills (EOS)

EOS examinations are offered at different levels and designed to meet the needs of organisations which value the accurate use of written English in their transactions.

Structure

The assessment is undertaken mainly through practical tasks based on realistic documents like memos, minutes and reports. The principal skills tested are linguistic accuracy (spelling, syntax, vocabulary and punctuation), comprehension (listening and reading) and proof reading. Because spelling is one of the principal skills tested, the use of dictionaries is not allowed in these examinations. The exam lasts one hour.

Results

Candidates who have achieved a minimum of 60% of the available marks are awarded a 'pass'. Candidates who have achieved a minimum of 75% of the available marks are awarded a 'first class pass'.
